Eddy Current
Probes
Eddy Current Probes
Nortec eddy current probes are designed
and manufactured by Olympus NDT in the USA.
Optimal performance in your eddy current test is insured by selecting
the right type of probe and one that is meticulously made. In addition
to coil size and frequency, the physical shape of a probe contributes to
a successful test. Flaw location and part geometry determine whether a
standard probe can be used or if a custom design is needed. Below are
some of the standard design probes available in a wide range of
diameters and frequencies.

Surface Probes
are available in a variety of frequencies and diameters, with shielded and
unshielded coils. They can be used for crack detection as well as
thickness measurement, conductivity and coating thickness.
Pencil Probes
are built for higher frequencies and are therefore best for surface flaws.
The Nortec 3551 type probe is supplied with a built-in small diameter, low
noise cable and an adjustable collar. They are available with both
absolute or differential coils in both bridge or reflection configurations
(shielded or unshielded).
Hand Held Bolt Hole Probes
have coils located at
right angles to the probe directions and are available with absolute or
differential coils in bridge configuration.
Scanner Driven Bolt Hole Probes-
are used with scanner for automatically rotating and indexing into holes.
Donut Probes
designed to inspect aircraft fastener hole with fasteners in place.
Available in various diameters in both bridge and reflection
configurations.
Sliding Probes-
designed to inspect aircraft fastener holes at higher scan rates than
donut probes. Operating in the reflection mode only, they allow inspection
of fastener rows for surface and subsurface cracks.
ID Probes
usually have a frequency range of 5KHz - 100KHz in absolute or
differential configurations. Many body styles available depending on the
inside surface of tubes being inspected.
OD Coils
usually have a frequency range of 5KHz - 100KHz, in absolute,
differential, and switchable configurations. Tubes being inspected are
passed through the coil for absolute or differential flaw detection at
high speeds.
PowerLink™
is a built-in value-added technology exclusive to NORTEC instruments and
sensors. When a PowerLink probe is used with a NORTEC instrument,
PowerLink™ provides automatic sensor recognition and automatic sensor
documentation. For specific applications the instrument set up and
calibration can be recalled through PowerLink™ thereby providing integrity
and repeatability of results.
